New York Giants’ Defensive End Justin Tuck and Bowhunter TV Sack Javelina in South Texas
September 16, 2011
New Berlin, WI September 19, 2011– Sportsman Channel, the leader in outdoor TV for the American Sportsman, is proud to showcase New York Giants’ two-time all-pro defensive end, Justin Tuck, this week on Bowhunter TV. Tuck joins co-hosts Mike Carney and Curt Wells along with special guests Terry Rohm and Mike Mattly on an action-packed bowhunt for javelina in South Texas. This adrenaline filled hunt showcases Tuck’s ability to “hit” javelina just as hard as he sacks opposing quarterbacks. Don’t miss this EYE-opening episode of Bowhunter TV on Friday, September 23 at 10 p.m. EST.
It’s no secret; Justin Tuck is NOT a small man, which makes things interesting when he’s hunting, especially in a cactus-filled environment! Standing at six-feet, five-inches and weighing 275 pounds, Tuck had his work cut out for him in the South Texas brush chasing lightning-fast javelina. Hosts Mike Carney and Curt Wells are on the hunt to provide some local knowledge of the area, and Tuck takes full advantage of the opportunity to get in some off-season hunting. Standing alongside an abandoned ranch road, Tuck spots a pack of javelina and goes into third-and-long mode, connecting on his first javelina of the day from 30 yards with a pinpoint shot.
Tuck and his teammates from Bowhunter TV are having such a good time they decide to run up the score, connecting both on stalks and animals coming to the call. After more spot and stalk action, Tuck lines up his second target and “sacks” another javelina – from 42 yards.
“We were delighted to have Justin participate in the show with us,” said Mike Carney, host, Bowhunter TV. “He doesn’t get the chance to chase many animals during the fall season due to his job requirements, but in spite of that he’s taken a number of great whitetails, bear and African game. Justin has great instincts and knows how to stalk and shoot a bow as well as any athlete I’ve ever come across. It’s obvious why he’s so successful on the football field. He showed our team that he’s not only a hardcore bowhunter, but also an exceptionally fun personality to share camp with.”
“This trip was absolutely awesome,” said Tuck. “I felt like I knew the guys for years. The hunting was non-stop action, with challenging shooting situations and lightning-fast quarry. I like Bowhunter TV because the shows are packed with information; you learn the right way to do it to be more successful.”
Bowhunter TV begins its season with more action-packed bowhunts and helpful how-to tips than ever before with Hosts Mike Carney and Equipment Editor Curt Wells. The “dynamic duo” set the scene for each episode and later pull double duty in our highly-touted “Tech Talk” segment. Randy Ulmer is about as good as it gets when it comes to pinpoint accuracy and he’s back to close out every episode with his “Dead-On” shooting tip segment.

A Warning To Outdoor Users About Echinococcus, From Worms
December 18, 2009
This is a warning to outdoor users about a potentially deadly biological event that could result from one’s curiosity to poke at and kick through scat from wolves, coyotes and foxes. Of course not everyone knowingly does this but many hunters, trappers and simply the curious, want to know what these animals have been eating.
Picture This!
November 18, 2009
With all the great stories, equipment, adventures and people out there I thought it would be great to get some pictures. If you have any pictures from a hunt, your gear or best of all you geared up that would be great. If you send in pictures I will post on our site as well as putting some of the best pictures on all our sites.

Northeast Environmentalists Want To Protect Interbred Canids (Dogs)
March 20, 2009
Where will the absolute insanity stop when it comes to efforts by extremists to end hunting, fishing and trapping, close off lands to human use, strip us of our rights and destroy our god given right in the pursuit of happiness?
It has gotten so bad that a group, made up of representatives from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and New York, have petitioned the Department of Interior in order to place protections under the Endangered Species Act for any interbred species of dogs, coyotes, wolves or any combination of the above, claiming these all to be unique species. Reducing Deer Populations For Healthy Forests And People
June 2, 2008
I’ve talked some about his subject from a couple different perspectives. In Pennsylvania, the state is in the middle of a major deer population reduction in order to regrow the forests. According to reports from studies and officials, there are areas where too many deer have destroyed the natural under story of the forest allowing for growth of invasive plant species. Read more
Calling The Wild Turkey……..When And How Often??

Quaker Boy Game Calls Pro Staff
One of the most asked questions about hunting the wild turkey is “when do I call and how often?” I feel that there is an art to calling turkeys. It’s all based on feeling him out and knowing what he wants to hear. How do you know this? Well I think it will come to you the more you work gobblers in different scenarios. Right off the roost, mid morning with hens, with out hens, public land bird, private land bird. In my opinion, whether calling a hot to trot two year old or a four year old hard hunted public bird, it’s a matter of getting his attention and keeping his interest just enough to get him to investigate. If you over call him, he will stand his ground and wait for this hot hen to meet him for their rendezvous. If you under call him, he will move off to the next hot item. Read more
A Strategy To Eliminate Lyme Disease
March 6, 2008
Below is an Op-Ed piece published in the Connecticut Post and written by Terence Savery. Terence Savery, a resident of Redding, is chairman of the Connecticut Coalition to Eradicate Lyme Disease.
*Note* – I have spoken with and communicated with some of the people, including Mr. Savery, about this effort to eradicate Lyme disease in Connecticut. I have been assured that those supporting this effort are also supporting the use of hunting as a management tool in this effort.
Have you heard the good news about Lyme disease?
Did you know that a town on Cape Cod ended its Lyme disease epidemic more than 20 years ago, and has been a virtual “Lyme disease free zone” ever since?
Or that communities in three New England states have ended their Lyme disease epidemics? Read more
Northwoods Sporting Journal To Recognize Skinny Moose Media Bloggers
January 23, 2008
With over 40,000 Northwoods Sporting Journal readers throughout the Northeast, with subscribers in all 50 states, John Ward, National Sales Manager of Northwoods Publications, LLC. and co-host of the new Northwoods Sporting Journal Television, thought it would be a terrific idea to gift our tried and true bloggers with a one-year subscription to their magazine.
This is a great opportunity for everyone as the result of a cooperative business spirit between Northwoods Publications, LLC and Skinny Moose Media, LLC. I spoke with my son Steve Remington, President of Skinny Moose Media, LLC., this morning about this and asked him if either he or John Ward perceived each other as direct competitors in the outdoor media business. The Art Of Hunting Deer The Old-Fashioned Way
December 4, 2007
Pete Bodo has a story today in the New York Times about a traditional bowyer and deer hunter, Thomas Aquinas Daly, who prefers to hunt with a hand-made long bow and arrows. Interesting story and one I like because he doesn’t dump all over hunters who prefer other methods of hunting the whitetail tail.
